What Causes Pain Around Right Hip In Elderly?
I am 75 year old female, started having pain around my right hip about 4 days ago. No injury, no fall. I have trouble walking, standing up, stairs, etc. when I lie down it generally is a dull pain, when I am up it is often a very strong shooting pain, sort of like getting electrocuted. How long should I wait for this to go away? I am generally busy with housework and yard, and walk with my dogs for about one hour each day. I m in fairly good health. My bone density is great, have never had a broken bone, but I do have a lot of problems with tendons.

Hi,
It seems you have some hip joint issue (osteo arthritis or tendons related to joint). As it increases with weight bearing (standing), you should not wait for long before you see your orthopedic surgeon. Physical examination and imaging investigation (X-ray or MRI) would define the cause, to be followed by cause specific treatment. Till then, you should take rest, hot or cold packs help. Take over the counter anti-inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen after food.
