Dear friend the particular type of pain that is affecting your chest and neck is always because of muscle pain ,the muscles of which are responsible for giving your rib cage a particular shape and holding neck straight.so lying in neutral position will always help you to decrease pain.then you can also take some analgesic to get relieve.what you are doing as putting hot bag in the place relaxes thoses muscles a bit.so you can carry that on.a home regimen of back strengthening exercise helps a lot.so in these conservative way I am sure you can get relief from this nagging pain.
