What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Knees?

problem with knees. 1st had back pain. (old nurse with liftin injury to back). L knee with pain sciatic pain and swelling after 5 months went away then 6 wks ago R kness had pain. It is now unbearable, double the size of left leg. The swelling went away but my muscle mass and knee pain did not. I take about 1600 mg of Advil per day, lidocaine gel and muscle relaxrny 10 mg per day with unrelenting pain. Take prilosec and Zetia plus fenofibrate. Sister has RA and mother had OA. Who should I see? Rheumatologist or ?? Hands and other joints hurt too

Hi,

You may be suffering from polyarthralgia it may be due to osteoarthritis or gouty arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis may involve the small joints first then bigger but possible.

Please get it done RA factor, serum uric acid or blood sugar. ESR, CRP and anti-CCP also useful.

Please consult your rheumatologist, he will examine and treat you accordingly.
