What Causes Pain And Redness In Index Finger?

Yesterday I developed a really painful pointer finger on my left hand. Today it is red back to the first join. I can barely touch it and all around the nail on the end and on the outside of my finger.
Dont recall hitting it or injuring in any way. It just hurts to touch it.
Came up all of a sudden and I don't know what to do
Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I am Dr.Shreyash Mehta, MD Community Medicine

I understood you query, I hope my answer will solve you query.

As you told that you don't recall hitting or injuring it, it may be due some infection, insect bite or insect sting or may arthritis like acute attack of gouty arthritis or pseudo gouty arthritis.

I advise you to consult your physician for the diagnosis.

I may you take non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug like Tab. Diclofenac sodium or Tab. Ibuprofen for pain relief.

I find this answer helpful
