Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Lump In The Head After An Injury?
I hit my head yesterday on the corner of a table. It instantly hurt and I screamed out in pain but then the pain went away. Later that afternoon (about 8-9hrs later) I started feeling more pain in the area & noticed a lump, I also have pain down my jaw and neck when opening my jaw. 24 hours later and I m still experiencing the pain, is this normal?
Accidental injury to the head is something you should not ignore and consult a doctor regarding the same if the pain and swelling are constant and there are other symptoms like dizziness or loss of consciousness seen.
In your case the lump is likely due to injury to the surrounding tissue so its the inflammatory response and the pain will be there for some time along with inflammation.
I would suggest you visit your doctor as the pain is still there, once the doctor examines the lump and clears you of no serious issue he will advise you appropriate pain relieving and anti-inflammatory medicines.
It will take time for the symptoms to go away so follow your doctor’s advice on this and take medicines as per his guidance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
