What Causes Pain And Itching Sensation In Stomach While Taking Doxycycline?

My son is holidaying for a month in Thailand. He is taking doxycyline as a precaution against malaria. He is experiencing severe stomach pain, itching + excess thirst. He also takes antihistami nes for itching. All these symptoms are possible side effects of doxycyline. He is talking about stopping the medication. Will these side effects wear off? Should he see a doctor? Shoulf he stop taking his meds?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain and itching sensation in stomach while taking Doxycycline. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like IBS , gastritis or acid reflux, but in your case the symptoms are probably due to doxycycline as its side effects . I would suggest you to consult doctor who prescribe you this medicine . Doctor may alter the dose or prescribe substitute . For now do no eat heavy and spicy food , drink plenty of water and at small and frequent meals .
