What Causes Pain And Fluid Retention Behind The Knees?

My right knee started hurting about a week ago. It feels like there is fluid behind the knee. When I straightened it out and put heat or cold on it, it feels better until I get up and move it again or bend it. It started when I was getting up out of chairs that were low to the ground. I also have popping and some grinding in that knee. I m taking Celebrex and Tramadol for the intense pain. I ve been on vacation these last two weeks and heading home tomorrow. I have a 10 hour drive but I will be staying somewhere along the way. Should I get it checked before I go or get it checked when I get back home?
