What Causes Pain And Dryness In The Eyes Along With Fatigue?

I have had a stress induced arrhythmia that I have taken Calan SR and Xanax for, for years, no problems. I moved to Arizona and got Valley Fever and my life has never been the same. I was treated with Fluconazole until the doctors felt my titer was low enough. I felt much better on Fluconazole. I am now being told I have an autoimmune disease and RA due to the Valley Fever. I feel terrible, eyes are so dry they are painful in spite of prescription eye drops, dry skin, sores, exhaustion, memory issues, dry mouth (I drink alot of water due to this), joint pain, I am overweight and find it difficult to lose weight even though I don t eat alot, don t sleep well, depressed.....

Hi,

I have just been through your query. Valley fever is not straight away associated with autoimmune conditions. Having a triad of rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's and obesity can be potentially debilitating. Here are a few things which you should know and do to manage this.

1) I think the autoimmune condition which you have is called Sjogren syndrome which causes dry mouth, dry eyes, dry skin and causes severe dehydration and exhaustion.
2) Rheumatoid arthritis which you are having is the culprit behind the joint pain.
3) From now start hydrating yourself with water every now and then to avoid dry mouth, use lubricating eye drops.
4) For skin use moisturizers, here we prescribe moisturizers with intense moisturizing capability.
5) Start working out and reduce your weight, since you have RA you should choose your workouts carefully.
6) Disturbed sleep cycle can make you gain weight further, so follow a proper sleep hygiene.
7) Speak to your rheumatologist about these symptoms he will prescribe you much-advanced medications now available.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Moses John Wesley,
