What Causes Pain And Cracking Sound In Knee Upon Bending?

Hi, I have had problems with my knee for quite some time. recently, it has started hurting in a little different way. It is in the front of the knee, at the top of the knee cap, my knee, when it bends makes a crackling sound. hurts to go up and down stairs. was just wondering if this seems like a previous diagnosis of weakened ligaments or tendons under the knee cap, or if it sounds more serious?

Hi
This sounds like something called chondromalacia patella--a fraying of the cartilage behind the kneecap. You need an MRI to check it and you may need arthroscopic surgery for it
