What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In Upper Stomach With History Of Having Ulcer?

my daughter, 29 years old, has been having pain and burning in her upper stomach..just below the breastbone. her stomach also feels hard in that area..about 2 inches in diameter. The pain is pretty bad, 7 on a scale of 1-10. She has had flareups in the past, and has been treated for an ulcer. It is the weekend...should she go to the ER...concerned about the hardness in the area. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
As you mentioned that there is hardness in the stomach , since she is also having ulcer ( stomach ) and also took treatment .
In my opinion for this hardness , there is no need to ER visit .
Since this hardness may be due to hyper acidity or gastritis .
In such cases at once give her antacid ( if it contains oxetacaine it will be better ) in high doses (until and unless it is contraindicated ) .
She will get instant relief.
These measure may be helpful , drink lukewarm water sip by sip .
Good luck.
I find this answer helpful
