What Causes Pain And Bleeding Of Jaw After Tooth Removal?

Hi,I had my back bottom molar removed about 12 hours ago. On my way home about 45 minutes ago I noticed increased pain in my jaw where the tooth was taken out. When I got home I put wet gauze back on the area and there was still blood. It has actually been bleeding very slowly for most of the day. With the gauze back on it hurts very little. Is it possible that I have lost my clot and now have dry socket? Or since it has still been bleeding and it is so soon after surgery a clot can still form or is maybe still there? It is very hard for me to see the tooth since it is so far back.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the pain you experienced 45 minutes after extraction of your molar tooth is due to wearing away of the effect of local anaesthesia that must be given to you before extraction..

Secondly very slight bleeding after few hours of extraction is not abnormal and can be from inflamed tissues at the site of extraction..

It is not necessary that you have lost the clot if bleeding is there..
As far as Dry socket is concerned it can be due to loss of blood clot but pain from dry socket is evident atleast 4 to 5 days after loss of clot..

If the bleeding does not stop after 24 hours of extraction then you should consult your dentist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray can help..

Aa of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen for reducing pain and place a sterile gauze in the area of extraction and bite gently on it so that pressure can arrest bleeding..
Do cool compresses over the cheek..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
