What Causes Pain And A Large Lump On The Chest After An Injury?

Good afternoon, Dr. Rynne. My 88 year old Mom fell and hit her ribs on a table and now has a large bump, with no discoloration, on her side. She has COPD and pneumonia and must use oxygen 24X7. She also coughs all day long clearing mucous from her lungs. She does not want me to call a doctor because she insists she does not have broken ribs. The pain from her fall is really tough on her when she has to cough. Is the large bump an indication of broken bones? Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate your input.

Considering her age and sex probability of rib fracture is more. As she is also suffering from COPD and Pneumonia, clinical examination by a doctor and other necessary investigations like x-ray chest, blood counts etc. is required to be done to rule out injury to other internal organs.
