What Causes Pain Above Ribs?

My son is 10 years old and started complaining about pain just above his right hand side of his rib yesterday. Today the pain has spread to both sides just below his breaststroke and he has a blue vein running down the middle of his chest under his breaststroke. He says it s painful to breath deeply and painful to sit or lie down. What must we do.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I have gone through this case and I think that your son must be having chest infection or a rib injury. In both case I would recommend you to get chest x ray to diagnose if there is any bony problem or any lung infection.
If there is any bony injury than it can be treated with rest. He should also take calcium also so that bone healing should be fast.
If there is lung infection than he needs to take antibiotics after discussing with your doctor.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks.
