What Causes Outbreak Of Hives Post Vaccination For Flu?
I received a flu shot on Nov 7, 2014-- 1 hr after shot, I had hives all over my body, including swollen lips + eyelids. I never had hives + I am 55 yrs old. I have been to ER twice since then with same symptoms. My DR. has me on 2 zyrtec/ 1 zantac twice daily--also Benadryl 50 mg Q 4 hrs - Prednisone bursts 5 x since dec 14. Do you know what else can be done? I am miserable!
As per your complain the appearance of hives and angioedema of lips and eyelids seems to be definitely due to severe anaphylactic reaction and flu shot can be a cause while there can be other causes like some unknown allergens..
I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation along with allergic testing like Patch test, RAST Test or food challenge test..
Once the exact cause is diagnosed an Immunotherapy can be instilled against it to reduce the severity and frequency of allergic symptoms. As of now you should continue taking anti allergics and steroids to keep the symptoms under control..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.
