A few days ago I noticed that my thumb, from the last knuckle to the tip, became numb and cold. I checked my redial pulse on both arms and it was the same. By the next day this portion of my thumb had turned a darkish shade of blue.... there are times when it feels numb and cold and then other times. it doesn t. What do you think? Thank you, Jan Bassham

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are two possibilities considering your symptoms 1. Nerve involvement at the level of wrist commonly known as carpel tunnel 2. vascular involvement with decreased blood supply.
You need detailed clinical Examination to confirm diagnosis. Tests required are 1. NCV study of left upper limb 2. Doppler study of vessels at wrist.
please get it done from radiology centre nearby you.
Visit to hand specialist is highly recommended.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
