What Causes Numbness In The Lip After Playing A Mouth Instrument?

During a long flute practice session about two weeks ago my lower lip became numb and I could no longer play the lower notes. Usually my lips recover by the next day. I haven't played since then and have been experiencing a slight tremble in my lower lip since then at all times during the day and when I tried to play the flute today could still not play the lower tones. What do you think the cause is? If I overdid it shouldn't I have recovered by now?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through you query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain numbness of the lip after long flute practice seems to be due to compression of the terminal nerve endings present over the lips and the compression leads to numb feeling..
It does not seems to be any other reason rather that compression of the nerve endings..
You should avoid playing flute for a few days and also start taking Vitamin B complex supplements..
Do warm compresses over the lips..
Avoid pressing or biting over the lips again and again to check for regain of sensations..
In case of no improvement in weeks consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
