What Causes Numbness In The Finger While Having Diabetes?

I am 61 years old and noticed about a month ago that I have slight numbness in left pinky finger. Yesterday I noticed that the ring finger is now the same way. I am diabetic and my foot doctor knows about the numbness in my toes. He said that it s due to diabetes. Would this be the cause of numbness in fingers as well?
