What Causes Numbness In Lower Lip Post Surgery For Cyst Removal?

I had a mucous cyst surgically removed from inside my lower lip in January. I was numbed and when it was over, they stitched it. I had the stitches removed about 2 weeks later. It is now 2 months since that surgery and my lower lip is still a somewhat numb. Is this normal?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain numbness of lower lip after surgical removal of mucous cyst has occurred due to injury to the nerve fibres in that area and injury had led to numbness...
The injury can be reversible or irreversible depending upon the severity of damage and in case if the injury is reversible the numbness will gradually subside but the time duration is unpredictable and can take from a few days to a few years to recover completely..
In case of irreversible damage the nerve will not recover and there will be life time numbness..
As you do not have complete numbness there are more probable chances that there is transient loss of sensation and will recover over the time..
You should still wait and watch for a month or so and if there is no improvement at all you should consult a Neurologist and get evaluated..
As of now you can take a multivitamin tablet daily for one month and do warm compresses..

Hope this information helps..
