What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Arms, Hands And Face?

Hi there I recently went to hospital for what they thought was a stroke. I had numbness and tingling in my arms hands and face. After many tests ( no scan) they didn t believe I had had one. I am still getting numbness and tingling in my face and have had terrible headaches since. I also suffer from an anxiety disorder and wondered if it was that. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Anxiety should not cause numbness and tingling in most persons though it can be associated with headaches.

Numbness and tingling are most often related to the nerves in a particular area. Abnormal function of nerves is called neuropathy.

It can be temporary in many persons and there are different possible causes.

It would be best to see a neurologist for assessment if the symptom continues.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
