i am 47 years old, i smoke, don't drink and have had weight fluctuations since shattering my pelvis in 2007. i also had a concussion from that accident. i am 5'2" and currently weigh 155lbs. prior to my accident and 6 months in hospital i weighed 112lbs for all of my adult life. i was also recently diagnosed with having lumps on my thyroid, but have not yet had them investigated. i was diagnosed 3 days ago with wrist dropsy; although, it was a very brief exam that took less than 5 minutes. i recall no accident or injury, i just woke up one morning to find my right hand no longer worked. at times, i do spend alot of time at the computer and other times, not at all. i can bring my hand level to my wrist but no higher; i can bend my fingers downward and make a fist, but can not move them upward at all. i have no pain, but i do have pins and needles that come and go along the outer edge of my palm, the outside edge of my thumb and along the top and outer side of my forearm. i am icing from my elbow to my fingertips and am wearing a carpal tunnel brace as well as manually flexing and massaging the whole area - mainly because i don't know what else to do. i have been referred to a neurologist and to physiotherapy - both which will take months to get into. and finally, 4 years ago i shattered my pelvis, broke in 9 places and had both internal and external fixation. i am currently on a 50mcg fentynal patch and muscle relaxants and continue to attend a pain clinic. i wonder if my nerve damage in my S1 joints could have anything to do with this? or maybe my TMJ? finally, there is numbness through the top of my forearm, top of hand and fingers. Can you suggest what kind of physio i should be doing and also, can you suggest what this is i may have, how long i can expect this to last, what kind of treatment should i be getting and/or tests? sorry to make this so long, but i am an artist, horseback rider and web site designer and of course, i'm right handed - the same hand that is affected.
