What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Hands And Fingers?

I have had a pain in my scapula and rhomboid for the past two months constantly for about 15-20hrs a day. I cannot sleep on my back or lay with my head turned to the left for it is very painful. The problem that I am concerned about is that I have a numbness or tingling sensation in my hand and fingers most of the time. My thumb, forefinger, middle fingers are constantly numb, since the pains in my back started. There is nothing that I can say that triggered this event. I would like to know what nerves run from the scapula to the hand and fingers

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Numbness in 1st index and middle finger is due to median nerve affection. Since you are having pain in scapula and rhomboid some swelling might be developing in that region. So I would like to advise radiograph of left shoulder with scapula to rule out bony abnormalities. Go for mri cervical spinewith screening of left scapula region to look out for soft tissue abnormalities. If any report comes abnormal please consult neurosurgeon and get yourself examined.
