My daughters 11 and suffers terrible nose bleeds probably twice a week, the blood just flows out of her nose so fast it drips through her fingers and goes onto the floor before i can grab a towel, what could be causing them, shes a healthy typical 11 year old
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Nose bleed in children is generally caused due to fragile mucosal blood vessel inside nose in an area called 'Little's area'. It is called 'epistaxis'. It is usually caused due to nose picking or nasal congestion due to infection. Whenever bleeding happens, don't have to panic much. Just ask her to pinch her nose tightly for about 5 minutes, bend forward and breath through the mouth. If it is happening too frequently, the bleeding vessels needs to be identified and cauterised by means of chemical or electro cautry. Kindly seek opinion from ENT Surgeon in this regard for proper management. Hope the information provided would be useful. All the best.
