My son has a non itchy rash over his chest, back and going on his arms. It looks bumpy but it s spreading. He said it doesn t itch. A dermatologist told him there s nothing they could do and said it could last 6 to 12 weeks. ,my son is 31 and did have chickenpox and measles when he was a toddler. The dermatologist told him it could be herpes virus. This is why Iam asking you. As a mother, I am very concerned. Could you please help. Thank you
Hi. As per your case history your son is probably having pityriasis rosea. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid cold foods like ice-cream and cold water. 2. Apply a mild topical steroid cream like mometasone cream on the lesions twice daily. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, vitamin c taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
It takes around 4-6 weeks for complete recovery.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
