What Causes Nervous Pounding In Chest?

I recently have had nervious poundings in my chest. Not a pain ful but really a hard pounding like anxiety. Is that the case? Is this something I should go to ER or setup an appointment with my dr. I have had a lot of stress from work. Any thoughts.

Thanks for your question on HCM. Chest discomfort is very vague symptom but can be a serious problem.
So better to rule out cardiac and pulmonary cause first. So get done
1. ECG to rule out heart causes.
2. Chest x ray to rule out lung causes.
If both of these are normal than it must be due to anxiety and stress. So be relax and keep calm.
Another possibility is GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease). It is due to laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter and thus acid of the stomach tend to come up in esophagus and cause symptoms. This os also related to stress.
So better to avoid stress and keep calm.
