What Causes Neck Stiffness And Body Pain After Body Massage Therapy?

when a massage therapist does a massage and the massage feels good and no complain at the time of treatment but the next day wake up with a stiff neck and as the days go by says that the pain get worse and you end up having to go to the hospital. My question is the therapist responsable if you got nerve damage during the massage or was there possbilatly something else going on and the therapist just agravaded the area by doing the massage?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is possible that during a deep tissue massage a preexisting cervical neck problem (arthritis, spondylosis, etc.) was aggravated. Additionally, it is possible that the massage caused some bruising in the muscular layer. If this is the case, it will get better over a few days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
