What Causes Neck Pain On The Left Side?

I have had a very stiff neck with pain on the left side and pain in the back of my head near my neck since Tuesday July 25th. Pain does go down into my shoulder ( Deltoid) muscle, but not as severe as in my head/neck. I do not have a fever or vomiting. It aches all of the time. Have been alternating heat with ice. I see my Primary MD August 9th. What else can help me wth the pain? Thank you. Rose Riggle I did not notice the pay and get an answer box How much would an answer cost me?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

As per your query you have neck pain on the left side. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like temporomandibular problem , stress and anxiety , cervical spondylosis , impacted tooth , hearing loss , muscle strain and infection in ear . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order tests like CT scan , vitals , examination with otoscope and rule out TMJ or impacted tooth problems . Doctor may prescribe supplement like ginkgo biloba , anti inflammatory , antibiotics ( gentamicin ) or may refer you to dentist in case of TMJ or impacted tooth problem . For now apply dry warm compress to TMJ and ear , drink green tea thrice a day and try to make yourself relax . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon. Mind relaxing exercises like meditation and yoga will be very helpful along with physical therapy of TMJ.
