What Causes Nausea While Sleeping?

When i lay down for bed at night, often after laying for about 10 to 15 minutes, I will become extremely nauseous and need to throw up. After I throw up, my body is extremely sore. Like a very deep ache that feels like it s in my bones, all over my body. It may just be acid, but I have tried antacids and they helped only a little. What can I do to stop from throwing up after I lay down?? I m a 23 year old female with no known health problems.

Hello dear,

Acid reflux is caused due to relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus and is characteristic of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Medical management consists of intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole (which prevent acid formation in stomach)+ Domperidone preparations (strengthens the sphincter & prevents reflux)

In addition you need to follow certain diet & lifestyle measures, such as:
1. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
2. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult your Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
