What causes nausea and vomiting along with dry heaving?

Hello, I am a 63 year old male, 5 10 , 190 pounds. I occasionally have unexplainable periods of nausea. It is preceded by a feeling of a kind of lump in my gut. I am currently experiencing just such an episode. I started vomiting late Sunday morning, continued throughout the day into the night. As of 8PM Monday night I still sometimes feel like wretching, although there is certainly nothing left to expel. I ve been able to drink some water today without losing it, certainly haven t felt like eating anything. My wife seems to think it s all stress related, and there appears to be some correlation. However, I have had these symptoms at a couple of times when there was no obvious street inducing component. Ideas/comments?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The current explanation of symptoms indicate possible intestine infection with some sort of allergy giving dry heaving.

I recommend
- dietary measures to avoid spices, oily.
- anti emetic, anti histamine and antacid prescription with the PCP.

Hope you get well soon.

My husband is very ill. It started last night with vertigo or dizziness. He was so badly nauseous he vomited. He couldn t turn his head without nausea. He vomited to the point of dry heaves. He sat reclined in a chair all day. He drank a little water, coffee and 7 up and had a small cup of soup, some applesauce and toast. He hasn t urinated since last night. He feels terrible.

I have constant nausea for over 3 weeks now. Can t tolerate any kind of food. The food tastes like iron when in my mouth which gags me and causes me to have dry heaves. If I swallow food it just comes back up. I ve lost 20lbs in these 3 weeks. I have a dull headache constantly and I am very week.

For the past week I have been having a hard time sleeping due to a racing mind. I am also finding that every morning I usually am noutious and either dry heave or vomit bile. On top of that I notice I have a rapid heart rate lately as well. I am a 23 year old male and I m not sure what is causing this. My only assumption is that we got a new puppy and I am possibly feeling this way due to anxiety or stress. Could this be possible?
