What Causes Nausea After Withdrawing From Prednisone?

I was placed on Prednisone (5mg), for 6 days. It is the 21 package. However, before realizing that this was a bad idea, I stopped taking the medication yesterday (midcycle). I just now took one because I felt nauseous, and I wasnt sure if it was withdrawl. Was this a bad idea? Also, how bad does 5 mg of prednisone weaken the immune system. Thank you so much for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is not expected to get withdrawal with prednisone after 3 days of use. Generally if a patient uses it for longer then 1-2 weeks there is a need for gradual step down of the dose to prevent withdrawal.

The nausea can be a new symptom or related to the condition you are using prednisone for. You might need to talk with your doctor on it and determine the cause of the nausea.

I would advice you to take drugs as recommended by the doctor as the doctor should have taken in consideration the possible adverse events with the use of the drug for a certain period of time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
