What Causes Nausea After Withdrawing From Doxepin?

I hAve been taking doxepin 10mg for 25 years. I read that this can cause cognitive problemso in the elderly. (I am 68). I read that this may be irreversible. When I tried to stop taking it cold turkey I became very nauseated and stayed nauseated for more than a week. Finally I started taking it again and the nausea went away that day. Is it really important to get off this stuff? My doctor has not recommended it. Should I try again more gradually?

Hi,

Tricyclic antidepressants can't be withdrawn suddenly. It may lead to withdrawal symptoms. Yes, few antidepressants may be associated with dementia.

But withdrawal effects of Doxepin not proven in studies.

Please consult your physician he will examine and help in the weaning of the drug slowly for months period.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
