What Causes Nausea After Swallowing A Candy?

I was at work and I put a piece of candy in my mouth..I accidentally swallowed the whole thing and it hurt in my throat and it just sat there. I suddenly felt nauseous and threw up the candy. Why did I feel nausea. Even though I m grateful that it came up.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern. The candy you accidentally swallowed provoked the gag reflex, which is a natural reflex caused by the stimulation of two cranial nerves, the glossopharyngeal and the vagus nerves. Hence the nausea and throwing up. It is one of the body's defence mechanisms. This is normal and there is nothing to worry about.

I hope this helps.
Wishing you all the best.
