my husband has taken Aricept for approximately 4 years at 10 mg a day. they have recently up the dosage to 23 mg per day. he seem to to fine with the increase the first 4 weeks but recently says is is nauseated all the time. He hardly eats anything. could this be a side effect of the increase in dosage?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I'm sorry to hear your husband has been having increased nausea on Aricept. As you suspected, nausea is a known side effect of Aricept, and it is dose related, which means the higher the dose, the more likely it is to cause nausea.

I would suspect this is the cause of your husband's nausea. I recommend he tell his doctor about it and see if the dose can be reduced, or if Aricept can be replaced with another medication.I hope that helps and that your husband feels better soon. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
