Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Narrowing Of The Colon Diagnosed Through A Colonoscopy?
I have crohns and I had a colonoscopy yesterday. They found a small section of intestine that was closing and recommended medicine.... If the colon is supposed to be about the size of a half dollar, my colon has closed to about the size of a nickel. I don t think medicine will cure this, what should I do.
It depends on the cause. If the intestinal wall is inflamed and swollen, treating the cause (infection usually) may reduce the swelling and increase the diameter of the lumen. If the cause is either a tumor or a stricture then drug treatment will probably do no good, although with strictures you may have a chance. Crohn's disease may cause stricture formation due to chronic inflammation of the bowels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis, Internal Medicine Specialist
