What Causes Muscular Spasms In The Rib Cage Area?

I ve been diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetic for over 15+ years now and my doctor took me off Januvia last year, but recently upped by Metformin (500mg 1 pill in the morning and 2 at night) but my glucose levels have been off the chart. When I wake up this morning my level was over 373. I had oatmeal for breakfast (so sugar, syrup or jam, just plain) & 1 cup of coffee with 2 Tbsp of SF Italian Creamer. So, I checked my levels 2 hours after breakfast and they went UP to 414! I know these numbers are WAY TOO HIGH, but my doctor doesn t come back until after the new year and I m afraid of these uncontrolled levels. I ve never had a problem with my levels until recently. I m scared and don t know what to do. I don t really exercise (and I know I should, but I have a neck injury due to work, so I m in physical therapy 3x/week) and I have a bike I can ride for 30-45 minutes an hour a day or do Yoga or Pilates DVD s that I ve bought from previous years. I need some kind of help or answer, and I know stressing out about this only adds fuel to the fire. Also, my doctor just put me on the highest dose of Lipitor (forgot the dosage). And for the pasts 3-5 months my hands have had uncontrollable tremors and I m also experiencing muscle spasms primarily in my rib cage area, but it can spread to other parts of my body as well. HELP!!!!!

Hi,

You are right the sugar level you mentioned is too high. Besides stressing on diet and exercise, it would say Metformin is too little for this sugar level.

You definitely need another drug along with an increase in the dose of Metformin to Control your sugars. Even this may need insulin therapy if sugars are too high.

Regarding muscle pains with Atorvastatin, this need checking CPK as muscles inflammation is common side effects of Atorvastatin.

So I would see you need not to panic but needs an appointment with your doctor urgently for proper assessment and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
