What Causes Mouth Ulcers While On Xifaxan And Clotrimazole?

After taking Xifaxan 550 mg tablets, 1 tablet twice a day, for 21 days, gastro doctor treated me for oral yeast infection wth Clotrimazole 10mg, and then Nystatin, 100,000 units/susp. (about 2 months ago). Just recently finished a second round of both medicines (about 2 weeks ago). Now on Carafate, combined with benadryl to treat swollen taste buds and mouth ulcers. Is the cause of all the mouth problems due to Xifaxan?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first-line management you can take multivitamin pills like Supradyn for symptomatic relief.

Triamcinolone mouth paste can also be applied. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
