What Causes Mood Swings And Loss Of Appetite After Abilify Withdrawal?

I've recently discontinued my Abilify and I've been feeling very moody I've been having ups and downs in my mood and have been losing my appetite I get really angry or really sad or really happy is this a symptom of the discontinuation of the Abilify or am I bipolar ?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Abilify is Aripiprazole and the drug is an antipsychotic drug. The drug is used commonly in psychotic disorders and also in bipolar disorders as mood stabiliser. Abrupt discontinuation of drug after regular prolonged intake cause withdrawal symptoms. The mood swings, reduced appetite, irritation, anger outbursts etc symptoms are probably due to withdrawal of Abilify only. To prevent the withdrawals symptoms best thing that should be done is to reduce the doses of drug gradually over 6-10 weeks. Reduction of doses in this manner prevent any withdrawal symptoms. For the symptoms you are having medicines like Benzodiazepines can help. Clonazepam or Lorazepam can help to reduce these symptoms and you will feel better. Please consult a psychiatrist and ask for prescription of these drugs. Don't take these drugs regularly and use them on PRN basis only.
