I believe i am at about 7 weeks pregnant, and am having cramps in the afternoons. I have miscarried before around 5 weeks so I am overly nervous. The cramps are mild, and I've only had a tiny spot or two of brown discharge. When I get the cramps I sometimes feel like my whole abdominal region tenses up, but after an hour or so I can usually get it to relax as long as I don't let it freak me out. I usually feel the tensing without the cramps. What is your advice? Is this normal?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I have read your query & understood your concern. In 7th week of pregnancy a mild heaviness in lower abdomen is normal. Cramps, pain & brown discharge is not normal, you also have history of abortion in past, In such a case you do need immediate expert advise. Early abortions are mostly due hormone Progesteron deficiency, & can be control hormone replacement & bed rest given in time. * Please don't worry. Consult a gynecologist for pin pointing the diagnosis after examination & investigations as per need. Continue with bed rest till then. Thanks.
