What Causes Metallic Taste At The Back Of The Tongue?

I received a different generic company s Pravastatin Sod. 40 mg. on my last refill. The Rx label has Dr. R after the product s name and NDC # 55111-0231-05. The tablet has 231 on one side and RDY on the other. I have been taking Pravastatin for several years with no problems. In the last 3-4 weeks, I have noticed a metallic-like taste on the back of my tongue and both of my arms muscles are sore, not due to nerve involvement. I wonder about these issues being a possible side-effect or effect from this particular company s product. Do you think these are possibly due to this new generic?

Muscle soreness or myalgia is one of the common side effect of statins. It's difficult to attribute such a common side effect to a change in generic preparation. Myalgia side effect can occur at any time during treatment.
Do consult your physician and get evaluated for muscle soreness. Investigations like CPK levels will help in making treatment decisions. Calcium and vitamin D supplements will also help.
Information regarding intake of other medications is not mentioned. Metallic taste is not likely to be associated with statins. It can be side effect of other medications.
I hope the above information helps. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a great day.
