What Causes Metallic Taste And Nausea?

Hello, My husband has been having a nasty metallic taste in his mouth every morning for the last two months, he has been randomly nauseaus, just doesn t feel good. He says that the area around his prostate hurts or feels like there is pressure when is sits and that goes away when he stands up. He has started to have black stools the last two nights in the middle of the night. He says that he doesn t feel right in the general abdomen area and thinks something is wrong. He does not have a GP and I told him his best bet was to go to the er as they can run tests and imaging and have everything done in one area as opposed to waiting several weeks or more to get into a new dr. Any ideas what it could be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your husband having nasty metallic taste in mouth for 2 months, nausea, not feeling right, heaviness in prostate area black stools and so on.
All such a history is indicative of a need to undergo the following as you have rightly guessed.
I would advise you the same, to go to ER for proper clinical evaluation, examination and in depth investigations.
One of the most important investigations is CT scan of abdomen so that if there is any cancer or so can be detected as early as possible.
Blood tests for routine and tumor markers for cancer of colon, prostate will help further.
Rest of the investigations would be clinically based like colonoscopy and biopsy, urethro-cystography and so on.
All these will lead to a p[roper diagnosis which further helps in proper management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
