I can understand your concern.
Metallic odor from stool is mostly due to infection in the intestine.
Since he is having intestinal problems in the past better to get done ultrasound examination of abdomen and stool microscopic examination to rule out intestinal infection.
He may need antibiotic, zinc tablets and oral rehydration solution (ORS).
Don't worry, he will be alright.
