What Causes Lumps On The Back Of The Tongue?

I have had lumps on the very back of my tongue for a long time now. I wasn t worried until yesterday when I started getting really bad body aches and a slightly sore throat. My nose isn t running but it feels like there s mucus stuck in my throat. This morning I coughed up bloody mucus the size of a quarter that was half yellow and half blood. What do you think this could be? Should I be concerned?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

The lumps on the back of your throat are enlarged follicles of lymphoid tissue, and this is common in patients having a post nasal drip. The infected secretions lead to the infection of follicles causing the swelling. Post nasal drip is generally due to sinus infection , which can be the reason for your blood tinged and yellow secretions. Please meet your ent doctor as soon as possible for confirming this and further treatment.

Thanks
