What Causes Lumps At The Back Of Throat Along With Difficulty While Swallowing?

I have had an upper resp infection for almost 3 weeks now. I took a full 10 day course of augmentin with improvement in the lungs but the sore throat has continued. I have flesh colored bumps on the back wall of my throat and they are very painful and one is almost dime size and raised. It hurts very bad to swallow and I worry that it is swelling more. I have been taking otc allergy meds but and using a lot of chloraseptic spray but that is all. Warm gargles and sinus rinses don't seem to help at all. Any advice?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you have swollen and inflamed tonsils and this is the cause of pain while swallowing..
You should take another 5 days course of augmentin and along with it anti-inflammatory painkller like Ibuprofen can be taken to relieve pain and swelling of tonsils..
Do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day..
Avoid hard and spicy foods and take a soft bland diet..
Suck on throat lozenges for relief..
Do steam inhalations.
Chew a Vitamin C tablet daily..

Hopefully the tonsils will start regressing in a week or even less but in case of no improvement consult an ENT and get evaluated and in severe cases injectable antibiotics and steroids can be advised to reduce swelling of the tonsils..

If still there is not improvement Tonsillectomy can be advised to you..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
