What Causes Lump Sensation In Throat Post Partial Thyroidectomy?

I had a partial thyroidectomy on June 16, 2015.The biopsy showed papillary carcinoma. Prior to removal I had the following symptoms: Feeling of lump in throat, clearing throat often, pain from left jawline into ear, tender glands, and if I ate anything soft and doughy it would stick in my throat, sometimes making me vomit. These symptoms all seemed to disappear after surgery( I noticed about a week after). About a week to a week and a half ago I started noticing a lump sensation was back, then the need to clear my throat, the last couple days my ear has been acting up like before. I was convinced I was fighting something till today when I had bread stick in my throat again. could this be cells growing, this much in a month. Thanks Debbie

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* As per my clinical experience, the persistent lump sensation with difficulty in throat clearing indicates possible issue with swallowing or laryngeal nerve territories.

* However, a detailed clinical examination is must from neurologic point of view which will decide future course of action as need of

- indirect laryngoscopy

- nerve conduction study

- MRI or else.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
