What Causes Lump On The Surgical Scar Of Colon Resection?

I have developed a hard spot on my upper tummy, at the very top of a scar from a colon resection. The spot is about the size of an orange and feels hard only when I stand up. I had a gall bladder surgery last year in the addition to the colon surgery. (the colon surgery was due to a fistula with the bladder and colon - that wound just closed up on March 12th). I m thinking it just may be a fat deposit or my stomach with food in it. If it were a hernia, wouldn t it hurt? Female 64 yrs old---- Debbie

Hello,

It is possible that the hard spot you are feeling on your surgical scar could be a hernia, which occurs when tissue or organs protrude through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. However, not all hernias are painful, and some can be present without any noticeable symptoms.

It is also possible that the hard spot could be scar tissue, which can sometimes form after surgical procedures and feel firm or lumpy. Without a physical examination and additional testing, it can be difficult to determine the cause of the hard spot. I recommend that you schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider to have the area evaluated.

They may recommend imaging tests, such as an ultrasound or CT scan, to further evaluate the area. It is important to address this issue promptly. This is because sometimes, hernias can require repair through surgery to prevent complications such as strangulation or obstruction of the intestines.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
