What Causes Lower Left-sided Chest Pain In A Diabetic Patient?

I have pain in lower left chest just under my left breast. I am female age 77, diabetic, but generally healthy. I am the caregiver to a disabled daughter. The pain severity fluctuates between 5 to 8 on the pain scale. It becomes worse with deep respirations. I also have an intermittent cough. It does not seem to be cardiac in nature--no radiation, no sob no n&v. I am wondering if I have pleurisy. In addition, the pain is worse if I move fast or put pressure over lower left ribs. I will be seeing my gp on Monday--had a chest x-ray done 2 days ago. By the way, I am an rn. so...what do you think?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Your detailed history about pain in left lower chest below the left breast which increases on breathing deep and activities without any radiation is most probably due to a condition called costochondritis.
In this condition the lowest rib which are floating also get inflamed due one of the many causes hence the typical symptoms.
This may be related to the stress and anxiety one has.
Can occur after an attack of viral infection and other conditions like Enteric fever and so on.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get in consultation with your Doctor and discuss about these possible diagnosis of costochondritis and get an appropriate management.
Keep away the stress and anxiety.
Anti-inflammatory medications with pain-killer actions work the best.
