What Causes Low Pulse Rate With High Blood Pressure?

I am a 57 year old male with a resting heart rate of 40 but my blood pressure was just taken and was 131/81 is there a problem with my heart rate this low and my blood pressure a bit high. I cycle an average of 100 miles a week at 5600 - 7000 ft elevation Thank you for your guidance.

Hi,

Your blood pressure is quite normal but pulse rate is bit low. In some individuals especially in athletes may have very low pulse rate. Its a physiological variation and does not indicate any significant disease condition.

However it is better to consult a cardiologist and get evaluated to assess the function of the heart. If pumping is adequate no treatment is required.
