What Causes Low Grade Fever Along With Swelling In The Legs?

My 33 year old daughter is currently an inpatient for the second time in 3 weeks. Has low grade fever, with red swollen leg. There are pus-filed blisters (some about the size of a dime) near her ankles. ID doc gave her clindamycin with vancomycin (both IV) first time around. This time she s on clindamycin with Daptomycin. Blisters are spreading. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Is your daughter a diabetic, or is she on steroids for any ailment? Swelling, redness, the pain of the legs with pus-filled blisters are clinical features of early necrotizing fasciitis. She will require hospital admission, IV antibiotics, strict Offloading (non-weight bearing) and elevation on the leg on a couple of pillows to reduce the swelling. If she has any additional co-morbidities, this will also have to be treated. Please consult a podiatric surgeon or a general surgeon for examination and management.
