What Causes Low Blood Pressure Levels?

Hi, my friend, age 63 just left my house. She mentioned that she had her blood pressure taken yesterday and it was 105 / 70. That seemed very low. She seemed concerned about it. I told her to go to a Dr. I was curious if that were an indication of something important.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
BP 105 /70 mm Hg, is not considered as low. There is a range of blood pressure that is 100 to 140 systolic (upper value, when heart is pumping the blood), diastolic 60 to 90 mm Hg(when heart is receiving the blood). In the younger age group BP can be 100/60 mm Hg, it is normal. As the age advances it does go up. But in some it may remain at the lower end of the spectrum or the range.
BP is considered as low when it goes below 90/60 mm Hg. This can happen in severe dehydration, accidental blood loss, severe malnutrition etc. But in a normal healthy person even at a later age 105/70 mm Hg is absolutely fine. There is no reason to worry about it. Thanks.
