What Causes Low Blood Pressure After Taking Metoprolol Succinate?

Hi, I am 67 year old female with A-fib / bradycardia. I have just started on metoprolol er succinate 25mg 2x per day. (only 1 dose so far due to below the threshold outlined). I was told to not take it if my heart rate was under 60 and/or blood pressure top reading was under 100. I have a history of low blood pressure. Currently my blood pressure is 110/52 with a heart rate of 56. Should I take the medicine or hold off again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

NO, it should not be taken with a heart rate of 56 because it will cause a further reduction in your heart rate.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
