What Causes Low Blood Pressure After Having Meals?

I have been having very low blood pressure after meals and after eating my lunch I often take a short nap. During the nap I can tell my blood pressure is going up because I am getting cold. I take my blood pressure and sure enough it is 200/83. Yesterday, I had a checkup with my cardiologist for arthroscopic surgery I will be having soon and my blood pressure was 128/65. But after lunch, I took a short nap and sure enough my BP was up. Today it did the same thing. What do you think is going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to postprandial hypotension.

There is no specific treatment for postprandial hypotension.

I would suggest you drink water before meals.

I also recommend eating smaller meals frequently.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
